Tokyo, Oct. 25 -- UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) received information related to the study (UMIN000063385) titled 'Effects of Toe Strength Training on Foot Muscle Size and Activity' on Oct. 23.
Study Type:
Interventional
Study Design:
Basic Design - Parallel
Randomization - Randomized
Blinding - Open -no one is blinded
Control - No treatment
Primary Sponsor:
Institute - Ritsumeikan University
Condition:
Condition - Healthy young adults
Classification by malignancy - Others
Genomic information - NO
Objective:
Narrative objectives1 - The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of toe flexor strength training on the morphology and activity of individual plantar intrinsic foot muscles. In addition, this study aims to examine whether the activity of the plantar intrinsic foot muscles differs according to the positions of the interphalangeal and metatarsophalangeal joints during toe flexion force production, and whether training-induced changes in foot muscle morphology, toe flexor strength, foot structure, and balance performance differ according to the toe movement used during training.
Basic objectives2 - Efficacy
Intervention:
Interventions/Control_1 - Participants perform toe flexor strength training using a toe gripping action twice weekly for 12 weeks. Each training session consists of five sets of 10 repetitions of 5-s toe flexion contractions followed by 5-s rest periods. Training intensity is prescribed relative to maximal toe flexor strength and progressively increased throughout the intervention period.
Interventions/Control_2 - Participants perform toe flexor strength training using a toe pushing action twice weekly for 12 weeks. Each training session consists of five sets of 10 repetitions of 5-s toe flexion contractions followed by 5-s rest periods. Training intensity is prescribed relative to maximal toe flexor strength and progressively increased throughout the intervention period.
