Tokyo, Jan. 23 -- UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) received information related to the study (UMIN000060437) titled 'Evaluating the Educational Impact of a Diabetes Progression Simulation Board Game' on Jan. 22.
Study Type:
Interventional
Study Design:
Basic Design - Single arm
Randomization - Non-randomized
Blinding - Open -no one is blinded
Control - Uncontrolled
Primary Sponsor:
Institute - Gifu university
Condition:
Condition - Adult
Classification by malignancy - Others
Genomic information - NO
Objective:
Narrative objectives1 - We developed a novel board game that simulates the course of diabetes and allows players to experience day-to-day decision-making and resulting changes in health status. In this study, we enrolled medical students without diabetes and examined whether participating in the game improves diabetes-related knowledge and how it influences attitudes toward stigma.
Basic objectives2 - Efficacy
Intervention:
Interventions/Control_1 - This game is a progression-simulation board game designed to provide a simulated experience of the lifelong course of diabetes. Players aim to live for 50 years, from age 50 to 100, during which they make choices regarding lifestyle and therapeutic interventions. These decisions influence glycemic control (HbA1c), the development and progression of complications, and changes in activities of daily living (ADL). A game master (GM), acting as the physician, provides interventions throughout the session, enabling participants to learn about the bidirectional patient-healthcare professional relationship in diabetes care and its importance.
Eligibility:
Age-lower limit - 18
years-old
<=
Age-upper limit - Not applicable
Gender - Male and Female
Key inclusion criteria - (1) Medical students aged 18 or older without diabetes
(2) Individuals who participated in the researchers' board game experience session
Key exclusion criteria - (1) Individuals with mental disabilities, or those unable to fully understand or cooperate due to non-cooperative participation or language barriers
(2) Other individuals deemed unsuitable for participation based on a physician's judgment
Target Size - 30
