Tokyo, Sept. 21 -- UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) received information related to the study (UMIN000063003) titled 'Interval walking for older adults: intensity, dose and functional outcomes' on Sept. 20.
Study Type:
Interventional
Study Design:
Basic Design - Parallel
Randomization - Randomized
Blinding - Open -no one is blinded
Control - Dose comparison
Primary Sponsor:
Institute - Tunghai University
Condition:
Condition - Healthy community-dwelling older adults
Classification by malignancy - Others
Genomic information - NO
Objective:
Narrative objectives1 - To compare the effects of two structured interval walking training protocols (1-minute vs. 3-minute alternating fast/slow walking cycles) on walking performance (6-minute walk test distance and speed) in community-dwelling older adults over a 12-week intervention; to examine the relationship between cadence-based exercise intensity accumulation (weekly duration at cadence of at least 105 and at least 120 steps per minute) and improvement in walking performance and functional fitness; and to assess changes in exercise self-efficacy, self-rated health, depressive symptoms, functional fitness, and body composition over the course of the intervention.
Basic objectives2 - Efficacy
Intervention:
Interventions/Control_1 - Interval walking training with 1-minute alternating fast and slow walking cycles, guided by real-time cadence feedback via the WalkPacer Pro mobile application. Participants were free to determine their own training frequency and duration, with no prescribed minimum or maximum weekly target; actual weekly duration at moderate intensity (cadence at least 105 steps per minute) and vigorous intensity (cadence at least 120 steps per minute) was recorded via the application. Training was self-administered using the mobile application over a 12-week period.
Interventions/Control_2 - Interval walking training with 3-minute alternating fast and slow walking cycles, guided by real-time cadence feedback via the WalkPacer Pro mobile application.
