Tokyo, Sept. 19 -- UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN-CTR) received information related to the study (UMIN000062973) titled 'A study comparing how people move when throwing a real dart and when throwing a dart in virtual reality' on Sept. 18.

Study Type: Interventional

Study Design: Basic Design - Cross-over Randomization - Randomized Blinding - Open -no one is blinded Control - Active

Primary Sponsor: Institute - Shinshu University

Condition: Condition - Adult Classification by malignancy - Others Genomic information - NO

Objective: Narrative objectives1 - This study will compare the kinematic characteristics of real-world dart-throwing movements and dart-like movements performed in a Virtual Reality (VR) environment among able-bodied adult university students, using markerless three-dimensional motion analysis, to explore to what extent movements performed in the VR environment reflect those involving actual objects. Furthermore, as a secondary objective, the study will examine the relationship between performance on the dart task under real-world conditions and kinematic indicators. Basic objectives2 - Efficacy

Intervention: Interventions/Control_1 - Real-Dart Conditions Participants perform dart-throwing movements whilst standing, using real darts. After 3-5 practice throws to familiarise themselves with the task, they carry out 10 throws as the main trial. The throwing distance, target height and standing position are kept as consistent as possible. Movements of the upper limbs and trunk during the throwing motion are recorded using a markerless three-dimensional motion analysis system. Under the real darts condition, the landing position of the dart for each throw is recorded, and the distance from the centre point is measured. The average distance from the centre point across the 10 throws is used as the performance score for the dart task under the real darts condition. Furthermore, the variability in performance is explored using the distance from the centre point for each throw. Interventions/Control_2 - VR Conditions Participants will perform dart-like movements within a VR environment using a Meta Quest 2 and its dedicated controllers. The application used will be On Target VR Darts. After 3-5 practice throws to familiarise themselves with the task, participants will perform 10 throws as the main trial. During the VR condition, the research staff will monitor the participants' condition via an external monitor or by visual observation, and the trial will be stopped immediately should dizziness, discomfort or unsteadiness occur. Even under the VR condition, movements of the upper limbs and trunk during the dart-throwing-like movements will be recorded using a markerless 3D motion capture system.
