The sensor element 101 includes an element body, a main pump cell 21 having an inside pump electrode 22, a measuring pump cell 41 having a measuring electrode 44, and a heater 72. The first impedance measuring section 47a applies voltage to the inside pump electrode 22 to measure a first impedance R1. The second impedance measuring section 47b applies voltage to the measuring electrode 44 to measure a second impedance R2. The controller controls the heater 72 so that the first impedance R1 is a target value R1*.
