TOKYO, Aug. 23 -- Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) issued the following news release:
On August 23, 2025, commencing at 16:00 for approximately 40 minutes, Minister Nakatani received a courtesy call by Norwegian defense delegation including H.E. Mr. FLAM, State Secretary to Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Norway and General Kristoffersen, Chief of Defense of Norway on JMSDF JS Kaga docked at JMSDF Yokosuka Base.
At the outset, Minister Nakatani welcomed their first visit to Japan of the State Secretary Flam and General Kristoffersen and others. State Secretary Flam conveyed his appreciation to Minister Nakatani for hosting the visit and the courtesy call on JS Kaga.
Minister Nakatani welcomed the deployment of Norwegian Navy frigate "HNoMS Roald Amundsen" to the Indo-Pacific region as a part of the UK Carrier Strike Group (CSG) and making port calls to Japan for the first time as these had a significant strategic meaning amidst the recognition that the security of Europe-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable has increasingly been shared. In particular, Minister Nakatani welcomed the first joint exercise conducted together with the Norwegian frigate in early August as it strategically conveyed cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.
They also exchanged views on bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges. They shared the view to further promote defense cooperation and exchanges including defense equipment and technology cooperation such as JSM (Joint Strike Missile) as Japan Air Self Defense Force procures Norwegian stand-off missile JSM. Other topics such as cooperation through NATO and supports for Ukraine are also shared.
They concurred to continue to work closely together towards further deepening Japan-Norway relationship.
