On June 16, commencing at 11:35 a.m. local time (6:35 p.m. on July 16, Japan time) for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil during her visit to France, for the G7 Evian Summit.
* At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that Japan seeks to further deepen its relations with Brazil, Japan's strategic global partner that shares values and principles.
* President Lula stated that Brazil wishes to cooperate with Japan, a traditional friend, across a wide range of fields, including the economy.
* The two leaders agreed to further deepen discussions in the field of economic security with a view to building a mutually beneficial cooperative relationship between the two countries.
* The two leaders welcomed the issuance of a leaders' joint statement announcing the launch of negotiations on the Japan-MERCOSUR Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), and confirmed that, while addressing each side's sensitivities, they will realize a mutually beneficial agreement and further strengthen economic relations between Japan and MERCOSUR.
5. Furthermore, the two leaders welcomed the strengthening of bilateral collaboration, including the launch of the Japan-Brazil Dialogue on AI Cooperation, and concurred to further deepen exchanges in all fields.
