TOKYO, July 23 -- Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) issued the following news release:

On July 23, commencing at 11:15 for approximately 60 minutes, Minister Nakatani held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission.

At the outset, Minister Nakatani welcomed HRVP Kallas' visit to Japan. HRVP Kallas conveyed her appreciation to Minister Nakatani for hosting the meeting. Both exchanged their views on regional affairs. Minister Nakatani mentioned the situation of military activities surrounding Japan including the unusual close flight to SDF aircraft by Chinese military aircraft and both concurred to further strengthen cooperation against unilateral attempts to change status quo by force or coersion. Both agreed that amidst the security of Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific is inseparable, they will deepen collaboration in security and defense area with the EU to maintain and reinforce international order based on rule of law. Both exchanged their views on Japan-EU defense cooperation and exchanges. Minister Nakatani welcomed the development of wide ranges of defense cooperation and exchanges including maritime security, defense industry, WPS based on the 'Japan-EU Defence and Security Partnership.' The Ministers renewed their determination to further strengthen security cooperation between Japan and the EU and concurred to work more closely together towards further deepening defense cooperation and exchanges between Japan and the EU.
