TOKYO, July 28 -- Japan Patent Office issued the following press release:

Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO took place from July 8 to 17, 2025, where various reports, budgets, and activities of the respective committees were discussed.

On the first day, the JPO Commissioner KASAI delivered a General Statement on behalf of Japan, stating: "The Japan Patent Office (JPO) welcomes WIPO's initiatives. We have agreed to strengthen collaboration with WIPO in supporting SMEs in developing countries and will continue to cooperate in global initiatives."

He further emphasized, "We also recognize the transformative impact of frontier technologies, especially AI, on IP systems. Japan is actively conducting domestic consultation in this area and looks forward to sharing our experiences and participating in WIPO's discussions."

He also noted, "IP plays a crucial role in addressing global challenges such as climate change and achieving the SDGs. Japan is proud to be the largest contributor to WIPO GREEN partners and is working closely with WIPO, including through Funds-In-Trust Japan IP Global, to expand these initiatives."

Finally, he announced, in conjunction with EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, the JPO will host an international forum focusing on "WIPO GREEN" and a roundtable titled "Women and Youth", aiming to spread the vision of promoting IP utilization for solving social issues.

The JPO Commissioner KASAI and Deputy Commissioner YASUDA also met with representatives from partner offices from over 20 countries and regions. The JPO confirmed its continued cooperation with each IP office on IP administration and exchanged information on recent initiatives.

The JPO will continue to collaborate with WIPO and its Member States to promote international initiatives on IP!
